A J VANDRIE - Painter

A J is a Native Canadian artists who paints in the style of Metis Woodland Art. A graduate of the Haliburton School of the Arts, he received his Visual Arts Diploma with highest honours including the Kathleen Finlay Bursary and the Drawing & Painting Award. He has developed a unique style of Woodland Art, a fusion of Native Spirituality and Western techniques created with vibrant acrylics on canvas. A member of the Quinte Arts Council and Brighton Arts Council, his artwork has been displayed in many professional exhibitions. With the belief of giving back to the community he has donated to several charities. Influenced by artists such as Norval Morrisseau and The Canadian Group of Seven, A J works out of his studio near Codrington, Ontario. His paintings celebrate the wonders and beauty of Canada. The recognizable flower signed in the bottom right corner of A J's paintings symbolize his Ojibway name Wahbegona, meaning Wild Flower.
